Wow -- how time flies! We are only 1 month out from our first concert in Coolangatta and have held 9 Clean Up events so far - that’s heaps of rubbish! Good on ya for those who have already helped clean up their communities or volunteered in other ways - don’t forget to share your story if you haven’t already and register for your ticket. Across from our house is a vacant block, every week someone decides it is a good place to dump their rubbish. My mates and I love summer and there's nothing better then hitting the beach on a hot day. But when you make it down to the sand only to find heaps of rubbish and left over stuff it sucks. We usually go to Redhead Beach and when I would take my pup for a walk down the far end she would always be trying to eat bits of plastic and rubbish that was there. So one day I organised 2 of the boys and a couple of chicks I know to head down and pick up all the crap. We made a day of it and marched down with matching fluro hats and homemade shirts. Heaps of people said they appreciated what we did. It was a mad day and not only was the beach cleaner for it, but we got a good laugh out of peoples reaction to our fluro beach wear.

I volunteered at a Red Cross Event, wrapping and organising christmas presents for disadvantaged families around Newcastle. I was asked by my violin teacher, so 20 of her students, including my brother and sister helped out at the event. It was held at the Newcastle Entertainment Center in one of the Pavillion Sheds. It was a rewarding experience knowing that we would be helping other families and making their christmas happier.

When I was at hottest 100 last year my firends and i collected everyones cups and cans off the ground. We had bins full of cans and cups just in a few gours.

i am a volunteer at James Fletcher mental hospital. i work in the ECT suite assisting the pyschiatirsts and nurses as they treat patients. in particular i am there to make sure the patients are comfortable before and after their procedures, as they can be sometimes quite distressed. i love helping and i feel like it really does make a diference.

Through uni we did some bush regeneration work toward the beach entrance to Wamberal Beach with LandCare. It's a great hands on experience that doesn't take too much time and you learn little things about the environment in a hands on manner. Very rewarding.

I work as a stainless steel manufacturer and we were having a lot of trouble with rubbish in local park because all of the wheelie bins kept getting destroyed by vandels, so i spoke to my boss and we are in the process or making up some stainless steel bins to install in the park so my brother and his freindss can hang out in safty with out garbage everwhere!

last year me and some friends noticed clean up Australia day was on the horizon, we live in a sketchy area,rubbish everywhere..we all decided to make something happen around this area and keep it up to hygienic standards. we grabbed bags gloves and hats, cleaned the streets of mayfield and its surrounding parks, it took us about 2 and half hours all up but we finished off the day at the local skate park with a BBQ, the locals we're stoked!

every australia day, a big group of us locals go down to 'the haven' at terrigal to play cricket and have a few drinks. there is always a huge of amount of people down there, subsequently alot of rubbish is left down there. Without fail, me and the boys are back down there early the next day to clean the entire haven area. this normally takes about 2-3hrs because other groups leave their rubbish lying around as well.
